![]() ![]() The Hero is often depicted as a fabled warrior in the Dragon Quest universe for his bravery in defending Alefgard and its surrounding lands from both the Archfiend Baramos and the Master Archfiend Zoma, a noble quest he started on his sixteenth birthday per the request of the King of Aliahan. It is also in this game where the player can choose the gender of the Hero for the first time. Set many years prior to the first Dragon Quest, the Hero is initially known as the Legendary Hero, though he is more best known as Erdrick (however, most promotional material names him Arusu). After Malroth's demise, the Hero and his cousins restore peace amongst the kingdoms.ĭragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation The trio eventually manage to reach Hargon's Castle and defeat him as well as the subsequent awakening of Malroth, the God of Destruction. During their journey, they come across the grandson of the Dragonlord, who tell them of The Five Sigils - five artifacts that can combine and assemble the Charm of Rubiss, a weapon that can stop Hargon. The Hero is known as the Prince of Midenhall and is a direct descendant of the Scion of Erdrick. In the alternate timeline of Dragon Quest Builders, the Hero is now a crazed villain who resides in a small fortress, believing himself to be the king of the world after allying himself with the Dragonlord.ĭragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line Hailed a savior, the Hero marries Gwaelin and together travel into unknown lands to form his own kingdom. He then ventures to Charlock Castle to confront and eventually kill the Dragonlord, freeing Alefgard from its reign of terror. He soon finds the princess under the clutches of a Green Dragon, to which he defeats. During his adventure, he finds a hidden ancient tablet in a secret cave that details the steps on how to defeat the Dragonlord and become a worthy successor of Erdrick. Originally just a simple commoner, this Hero's journey is kicked off when King Lorik informs him that Princess Gwaelin has been captured by the Dragonlord, who has also shrouded Alefgard in eternal darkness. The Hero of the first Dragon Quest is known as the Scion of Erdrick, who is a simple but stoic silent protagonist. ![]() Some are also referred to by their titles, with Eleven sometimes being named The Luminary instead by both fans and in promotional material for Dragon Quest XI. Ultimate is named Eleven by fans due to being the Hero of the eleventh Dragon Quest game. Instead, fans usually refer to them by their number for example, the default playable Hero in Super Smash Bros. In terms of naming conventions, Heroes have never been given a canon name. As it is a vocation, it can technically be granted to any of the party members, but the term is more unanimously associated with the series' eleven playable protagonists. However, becoming the Hero first requires the completion of smaller vocations, making them skilled in most if not all trades. They are usually a strong warrior capable of all types of offensive attacks such as sword fighting and spellcasting and being rewarded with the best equipment.
